Caring for Wooden Toys
Wooden toys are timeless treasures that can last for generations when properly cared for. At Timmy Toys, we want your toys to bring joy for years, so here are some important tips on care, maintenance, and understanding the natural qualities of wood.

Everyday Care
Cleaning: Use a soft, damp cloth to gently wipe your toy.
Avoid soaking or using harsh chemicals, as excess water can damage the wood and remove finishes.
Drying: Always air dry completely after cleaning. Keep toys out of prolonged direct sunlight, which can cause fading or warping.
Storage: Store in a cool, dry place. Humidity and damp environments can cause swelling, while very dry spaces may cause cracks.

Fixing Wooden Toys
Wooden toys are durable, but they are not indestructible. If a toy becomes loose or develops a crack:
Loose parts: A dab of child-safe wood glue can reattach small pieces. Let it dry thoroughly before play.
Surface scratches: Lightly sand with fine-grit sandpaper, then reapply a natural, non-toxic oil or beeswax polish.
Cracks: Small cracks are normal over time. They usually don’t affect play, but if needed, fill with wood-safe filler and sand smooth.

Refreshing Paint and Varnish
With play and time, painted or varnished finishes may fade. All our varnishes are water-based, and paints are child-safe.
Faded paint: Lightly sand the worn area with very fine sandpaper, then carefully repaint with child-safe, water-based paint in a matching colour. Allow to dry fully before use.
Worn varnish: If varnish looks dull, gently sand the surface and reapply a thin coat of water-based varnish. Leave to dry completely before
play.
Polishing: For extra protection, a light coat of natural beeswax polish can help maintain a smooth finish and add a soft sheen.

Understanding Wood
Wood is a living, natural material, and no two pieces are exactly alike. That’s part of the charm!
Grain patterns: The grain shows how the tree grew. Lines, swirls, and colour changes are natural features that make each toy unique.
Knots: Knots are places where branches once grew. They may appear as darker circles or spots. These are not flaws, but part of wood’s natural character.
Strength: While strong, wood can dent, scratch, or chip with heavy impact. This is normal and part of a toy’s story over time.

Not Indestructible
Wooden toys are built to last, but they aren’t unbreakable. Just like trees in nature, wood responds to its environment. With play, your toy may show signs of use—scuffs, dents, or small cracks. These marks add character and tell the story of the fun and adventures your toy has had.
At Timmy Toys, we believe in celebrating the natural beauty of wood. By caring for your toys and respecting the unique qualities of the
